The Florida State Fair’s history is deeply rooted in the heart of Tampa, tracing its origins back to 1904 on a 27-acre plot right next to the grand Tampa Bay Hotel — the site that is now the University of Tampa campus. In its early days, this winter festival provided a grand stage for showcasing Florida’s finest agriculture, livestock, and craftsmanship.
For decades, the annual celebration was intrinsically linked with the city’s famous Gasparilla Carnival, with the pirate parade traditionally terminating at the downtown fairgrounds. It was this enduring popularity and growth that eventually necessitated a move to our expansive 330-acre home off I-4, but that founding spirit of community, competition, and fun remains a core part of our identity.
