Activities, Crafts and Demonstrations
Throughout the Florida State Fair, Cracker Country comes to life with skilled artisans and historical educators who demonstrate crafts and life skills that would have been important to Florida settlers of the 19th century.
As you stroll through the museum grounds, you will meet artists who create baskets of pine needles. You will experience soap making, kickwheel pottery and delicate shaker boxes cut on a treadle-operated scroll saw. You can watch the blacksmith and saddlemakers practice their ancient and practical craft.
You may learn a valuable skill, like how to hand-tie a sturdy broom, shape a sponge from the Gulf or turn a beautiful chair leg using a lathe made from a bent sapling.
You may take home a carved wooden treasure, a handmade cow whip or an antique rose plant for your garden, or create your own little doll on an antique sewing machine.
Discover all of this and more as you enjoy Cracker Country during the fair!
