Men, women and children found different ways to delight in each other’s company. Men regularly got together to play horse shoes or to participate in shooting competitions. Women often assembled to share stories or to quilt together. Girls liked to play with their dolls, or games such as hopscotch, charades, London Bridge, poor kitty, hide 'n' seek, and jump-rope. Boys played games such as marbles, mumbly peg, checkers, chess, or town ball. Boys and girls also played many games together, some of which included hide-the-thimble, skin-the-cat, tug-of-war, and swinging. |
